Exalting Christ to proclaim God's reign over all creation.
We are a part of The Vineyard - a community of over 1,500 churches in 70 countries worldwide. As a church within the Vineyard movement we identify ourselves as “empowered evangelicals.” That means Scripture is our ultimate basis for faith and practice – not the traditions of the church or theological systems of man. It also means we embrace and encourage the practice of all the gifts of the Spirit enunciated by the apostle Paul in 1 Corinthians 12.
We value an approach to God that is relaxed and yet reverent. We do so as a means to pursue authenticity and transparency as individuals and as a church while seeking to balance this with an understanding that we are to approach God in a way that honors and reverences his holiness.
At Vineyard Community Church of Wake Forest our purpose is that spoken of by the prophet in Isaiah 61:1-3 and repeated by Jesus in Luke 4:18-19 – proclaiming good news to the poor, binding up the brokenhearted, comforting those who mourn, exchanging beauty for ashes, and offering the “oil of gladness” instead of mourning. This happens as we submit to God’s work in our lives as we actively cooperate with God as co-laborers in his work of redeeming and restoring all of his good creation that has been marred by sin. This is done for the good of God’s creation and, more importantly, as an act of worship whereby God’s splendor is displayed and he is glorified.
“There is not a square inch in the whole domain of our human existence over which Christ, who is Sovereign over all, does not cry: 'Mine!'" - Abraham Kuyper
